My Shoes” is sort of an anti-capitalist love song, or at least an anti-workaholism love song. It is really, really hard to undo the programming we all receive that tells us that the most important thing about us is our productivity, our legacy, the things that we create and how much money we make. I see the chorus “I want to be happy standing still, I want to be with you all the time” as the narrator of the song trying very hard to break out of that “work routine”. Trying to learn how to be in the moment, and enjoy things as they are.

Recording started with a full group of SEACATS all playing live on the floor together at the The Hall of Justice Recording Studio in Seattle. The energy of the whole group being together and in the moment is really what drives the track forward. In the months afterward lots of finishing touches were layered on top of those tracks to make something that felt really warm and pleasing to the ear. We were lucky enough to get SEACATS friend Steve Fisk to play some synths on the end, and we were so pleased to get Darwin Deez to mix it!

This is the first tune from our upcoming 2018 full-length!
